People in the Front Row

Before there was the Hilltop Hoods, there was Melanie Safka.

[Melanie Safka, 1971]
I was outta love,
and out of heart
I couldn't quite stop
something that I didn't start
Yeah yeah, the critics said no,
I didn't know how
it came, so I couldn't go,
oh oh how ....

I was read on the bill
of a second rate show
The audience asked me why but
I didn't know, oh oh
My predicament grew,
but now I got friends
And I think that
my friends are you,
yeah oh oh how ....

You know I looked around
at the faces I'd know
I fell in love with
the people in the front row
oh oh how ....
My predicament grew,
now I got friends
And I think that my friends
are you, yeah....
oh oh how ....

You can put me here
and I'm all yours,
Not for the money
and it's not for the applause,
no oh no no no
'cause after is nothing
it's doing the song
I don't have to hear a thing
to know I've been grooved on

These chords that I'm using
are usually sad
I had to use them,
they're the best chords that I have,
ha ha ....
Oh yeah, this progression is usually sad
But it felt my sorrow and I wanted
it to feel me glad,
ha ha ....

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle "Review"

About six months ago, I decided to re-live some childhood memories and buy Sonic Adventure 2 Battle online from Ebay. Although as a child I was never allowed to have electronic games, I remember watching my primary school best friend play.

The game was released by GameCube in 2001 and according to the Boyfriend was the last really good Sonic the Hedgehog game. It can be run on a Wii game system, but you have to have a GameCube controller and a memory card to play, as we discovered on the night it arrived.

Desperate to play, we rushed over to Mt. L. (a 20 minute drive) to borrow the necessary equipment and rushed back, knocking an old lady over. Okay, so it's all true except for the part about the old duck.

Anyway, as we watched the opening scene (I won't spoil the oh-so-wonderful typical Japanese plot for you), we were struck by how pointy and angular the graphics were. Now that we've nearly passed the game we've come to even be impressed by the quality of the graphics, considering that this was developed ten years ago.

In this game you get to play the Good and the Dark characters including Sonic, Tails (Miles Prower), Knuckles, Shadow, Dr. Eggman and Rouge the Bat.

In addition to the main storyline there is a side attraction within the game called 'Chao World'. Inside the garden found there, you can nourish and play with (or abuse and neglect) virtual pets called Chao. In each stage of the main game-play there are animals and crystals hidden which you can collect. If you feed these to your Chao it will take on animal appearance and abilities for the former and just abilities for the latter. If you nourish the Chao with a Dark character it will become evil and vice versa for the Good characters.

I also enjoy the really catchy music present in the different scenes (I wonder whether one could get a CD of this online)

1 Googleplex later: Oh yes you can!

This is the song from one of the first stages.

There are hours of gameplay so if you are thinking of indulging in something entertaining and non-violent I suggest that this is the game for you.

Perfect Day

So had a casual 10 hours of sleep last night (Thursday Night).

Had a hair appointment at noon, got my highlights done (half a head of foils) and my hair trimmed. Lady tried to sell me $49.95 "MorrocanOil" which is this product for my hair for which I was thinking "ahahahahahaha....NO".

Anyway stopped by a Good Sammy's and got this cute grey dress from ValleyGirl with a cut-out on the back and the front for $12. Such a steal.

Stopped by Chilliz for $4 lunch of noodles and bbq pork. Sooooooo cheap.

Then went to David Jones and got three Lovable bras (two beige, one white) and an Elle Macpherson balconette bra and matching lacy panties which I paid for with $90 cash and $134.95 Eftpos.

My hairdresser told me about a store called Ally which is new in the city. I went in there and although most of the clothing was a bit tacky, I picked up a coral singlet for my ANTM audition on Sunday for $12.90.

Next looked through Diva accessories, but decided not to spend anything.

Then since I was looking for cute new undergarments I went into Alexander Perry sleepwear and bought a pink and black slip dress with bows and poodles on it. The label pronounced $51, but lo and behold upon presenting it to the assistant at the counter it was reduced magically to $41.30. Score!

I then went into the place where the ANTM auditions will be held this Sunday. I went into Kikki.K and was tempted by their laptop bags (they would look so cool on my shoulder at uni), but I decided to wait until a few months time to properly think out the necessity of this item.

I then ventured into Kit which is a magical store full of makeup goodies. I had so much fun trying on all the lipstick and eyeshadows. I will be requiring a voucher from there for my birthday.

I went upstairs and checked out the new food court and out the window there was a very cool beer garden. Must go!

Sportsgirl is a fantastic store with lots of groovy clothes. That said I didn't like that all the stores in the city stock the same clothes. It's a bit blah. I bought a headband made out of fake, plaited blonde hair. When I wear it it looks very sweet and pretty and not fake at all. The picture at the top demonstrates.

I cut through Carillion City Arcade and then had a quick look through Supre for costume ideas for SU Camp. I couldn't see anything remotely wearable (it's cheap, crappy and tacky), so ducked out again only to wander into the Body shop. They kept some of their samples on ice which felt so delicious on such a hot and oppressive day. I bought a loofer to go with the Garnier Fructis exfoliater I bought at the Chemist for $12.95.

I headed home then on the train satisfied with the day's purchases.

THE BILL:
Haircut and Foils                                          $170
Dress                                                           $12
Lunch                                                          $4
Bras and Lingerie                                         $224.95
Singlet                                                         $12.90
Slip Dress                                                    $41.30
Hair Headband                                             $14.95
Exfoliater                                                     $12.95
Loofer                                                         $7.95
Razors                                                         $7.99
----------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL:                                                     $508.99

This is about a week's pay for me, so it was interesting to see how quickly everything added up. However, I have been considering all of the items I bought for a long time and I swear that I will use all of them regularly. The question that remains is how to get rid of all the stuff I have in my closet so I can fit in the new items?

Stay tuned.

The blonde unicorn

So I've booked an appointment for tomorrow to get my hair cut and coloured.

I have long, blonde hair which requires highlights from time to time.

Five months ago I got a fringe cut, which looked really good (balanced out my face a bit), but since I have wavy hair it requires straightening.

I'm now growing out said fringe and it's at that annoying length where it is hard to clip back, but equally crap to just let be.

So off to the hairdressers I go.

I would love to dye my hair red one day but at the moment I'm saving up to go to F. for six months and so no gratuitous spending is necessary.

Plus, don't blondes do it better?

By the way I like the blonde shade of this model above.

No room?

So you have a tiny, cramped apartment and somehow you have to fit in a sofa and a bed!

You despair wondering how it all came down to this.

"I don't need a sofa....." or "I don't need a bed....."

You stand there tearing your eyes from your beloved couch to your comfy bed and back and somehow the tears became a deluge of cost opportunity and sentimental materialism and you wallow in your caffe latte.

You walk around the streets bereft and wonder why you ever moved from your hometown to the big smoke.

Was it because of your annoying bossy parents or the fact that you needed to grow up and become your own person?

Or was it because you liked the idea of renting/leasing/owning your own appartment like the characters of Gossip Girl

Drowning in your misery of indecision you decide to leave town and become a sheep shearer.

Or a least you would if this incredible invention did not exist.

Available from http://www.bonbon.co.uk/clei/doc_xl.htm with price on request this thing is absolute gold!

Lip Dub

If you have not heard about this then you are missing out!

Lip dub is a video of people singing along to a song played on a stereo or PA system. The video is then dubbed over with the real song, creating a very cool, surreal music video with perfect lip-syncing in a manner similar to that of a flash mob.

There are hundreds of these videos on youtube and the best ones are the ones where the uni students really get into it.

The following are three of my favourites:

  1. .

"I Gotta Feeling" (Black Eyed Peas) performed by Comm-UQAM (2009

  2. .

    "

Hey Soul Sister" (Train) performed by UVIC

     (2010)

  3. "Somebody to love" (Queen, Glee Version) performed by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2010)

The best one by far is the first. All the students know the words off by heart (it's hard not to with such an omnipresent  song). They have very cool moves that interpret the song in funny and dare-I-say-it original ways (for instance they have students tilting a couch with a girl on it for the line Jump off that sofa  and a priest gesturing to the sky for the line like oh my god"

The second I enjoyed as well but the students didn't all sing the lyrics as per in video numero uno.

The third is very nice as well.

Watch, watch and watch!

So what songs would YOU use for a lip dub? Let's also talk dance moves.

Wow Stats.

Wow,

That's pretty awesome, my stats just went up dramatically.

Oh yes I also forgot to mention that the boyfriend got me an ALOT shirt from hyperboleandahalf.com.

I wear it every night. (except the nights where it is in the wash).

Pretty Little Liars

Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you’ll save
Better lock it, in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you
Won’t tell what I said
Cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead

Have you seen this show?

Are you obsessed?

Do you just live from Monday to Monday for it to show on GO! ?

Well then we are soul mates.

I love this show and the characters who seem to have so much more depth and personality than the likes of Gossip Girl.

Each of the four girls have their own unique (yes cliche, I know) personality, dreams and worries. However, they all share the fear of what happened the night that their friend Alison DiLaurentis went missing three years previously and their stalker A who seems to know all their secrets.

The show, which is based on the books of the same name by Sara Shepard, opens with the song Secret by the Pierces.

The series revolves around the lives of four friends three years after their friend and ringleader, Alison disappears. Having drifted apart they are re-united by A and the mystery of what really happened.

Hanna
Hanna is the 'popular girl', but unlike other teen dramas, this character actually seems very nice. After Alison disappeared, Hanna completely re-invented herself, maybe re-inventing what really happened three years ago...

Spencer

Spencer loves to compete....that is to say she loves to win. Maybe this is due to the rivalry between her and her older sister, Melissa. As the only girl who ever challenged Alison, could Spencer be hiding something more sinister than stealing old essays?

Emily

Emily is the good girl who does exactly what her parents say and is a star in the swimming pool (at least in the books). However, when new people move into Alison's old house she has to choose between her true feelings and other's expectations of her...

Aria
At the beginning of the series, Aria has just moved back from Iceland with her family. Before Alison disappeared, she discovered her dad kissing one of his university students in the back of a car in while hanging out with Ali. This is another one of the secrets that the pretty little liars try to suppress...

These are the Pretty Little Liars and you will love them, despite all secrets withheld.
